It’s a little too early to tell, but it appears the movie “Twisters” (2024) may soon be filming in Oklahoma. It is the sequel to the movie “Twister” released in 1996 starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt.
If you would like to be an extra/background actor in “Twisters 2” keep reading…
Twisters will star Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos. It will be directed by Lee Isaac Chung and financed by Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.
Steven Spielberg will not be directing, but who knows… maybe he’ll drop in for a visit?
Filming will take place in the Oklahoma City area during the Spring & Summer of 2023. Rumor has it filming will begin on May 2, 2023 downtown Oklahoma City.

Update (May 18, 2023): Filming has begun and photos/videos are starting to pop up on social media. Here’s a video of some of one of the filming locations showing the aftermath of a tornado near Enid, Oklahoma:

The casting agency prefers the specific details of casting calls not to be posted on 3rd party websites, so we can forward you more details once they are available.
You may also want to watch the original “Twister” movie released in 1996 to get an idea for what the sequel will be like.
Judging from the first movie, I would expect a similar plot with plenty of storm chasing/driving and towns/farms getting destroyed by tornadoes.
Probably a good chance they may film in some of the same locations as the first movie. If you’d like to see some of the filming locations, watch this video below:
Tips on Getting Picked as a Background Actor
If you’d like to increase your chances of getting picked as an extra here are a few tips that may be helpful:
1 – Read the casting instructions very carefully and follow them exactly
2 – Do not call the casting agency
3 – If you have the means, get a headshot and full body shot to improve your chances. If you want to try to do the headshots yourself, here are some tips from photographer Peter Hurley:
4 – Try to choose an extra slot that best matches your look and personality.
5 – It’s easier to be selected for scenes that have a large amount of people. The more, the merrier.
6 – Be persistent. If you don’t get selected, don’t fret. Apply for a different extra character or wait until the next round.
7 – Don’t pester the casting agency with emails. Less is more.
That’s all for now… I’ll update this post as soon as more news trickles in… Good luck!
